History: Nick Vargas originally hails from small-town
middle America. As a child, Nick was happy and creative,
clinging to the arts in general and music in particular.
Having grown up with the dream of finding fame and fortune
in his life, he eventually moved to New York City to pursue
his career as a musician. Even with a string of small successes,
however, he never quite caught his big break nor sustained
a solid career in the music industry. Jaded and miserable,
Nick has all but abandoned his dream, settling instead with
running his own record store. As a result of his feeling
short-changed in life, he’s a very cynical and unhappy man,
usually deflating or downplaying the success of others.
This is his defense mechanism, and has prevented him from
forming any lasting relationships, save a business
partnership with his cook, Joe. Most of the time, he wishes
he could simply disappear.
Powers: Enhanced by the Quantum Silica, Nick
Vargas has the ability to teleport to various destinations
by mere thought. The true range of this ability is unknown,
however it has mainly been limited to an area roughly one
mile in distance. Another facet of this power is an apparent
ability to also traverse the space/time continuum. Nick
however doesn’t seem to have any conscious control of this
ability, and is limited to traveling “sideways” between
various alternate realities. Nick’s abilities appear to
be limited to no more than himself and one other passenger.
And such a journey is both extremely painful and nauseating.
